Overview

A mountain project you can return to across seasons: 33 designated Catskill peaks, from established summit trails to untrailed objectives. This is an independent Wyld Quest companion to the Catskill 3500 Club's challenge. The Club owns its membership rules and awards; completing a digital checklist does not itself confer membership.

Plan your first outings

Read the companion planning guide for the list changes, winter requirements, navigation and record-keeping: https://www.wyld.quest/blog/catskill-3500-club-planning-guide Choose an individual approach, legal trailhead and return plan before choosing a summit. These points are a collection, not one continuous walk. There is no meaningful single distance or difficulty for all 33 peaks. Check the official peak notes before grouping nearby pins into the same outing: https://www.catskill3500club.org/peaks

Keep the summit count and winter repeats separate

Regular membership requires the 33 designated peaks plus a second ascent of Slide, Blackhead, Balsam and Panther, with at least one ascent of each of those four during December 21–March 21 inclusive. That is 33 different summits and 37 required ascents, not 37 different mountains. The Club's winter award also requires all 33 in winter and the four mountains twice; consult its current rules: https://www.catskill3500club.org/patches Use dates and notes to distinguish first ascents from winter repeats. Keep the four repeat dates on the official tally as well. A 33/33 progress display here represents the summit collection, not a check of your winter eligibility. Start with the Club's current tally rather than an old 35-peak list: https://www.catskill3500club.org/membership-tally-sheet

Read the map as summit references

The pins locate summit areas for browsing and planning. They are not parking areas, navigation tracks, or guarantees of the exact high point or a summit canister. Carry a current topographic map and the skills to use it; do not draw a straight walking route between these points. Published reference coordinates have different precision from a field survey. West Kill was checked against a separate published summit reference because the compilation's latitude is erroneous.

Access comes before a check mark

Doubletop and Graham are not required entries in the current 33-peak challenge, and their private-land closure is not an invitation to find a different approach. South Doubletop and Millbrook Ridge were temporary alternatives, not additions to this roster. Rocky remains a designated peak even though its reported elevation is below 3,500 feet. Use the Club's current roster and New York DEC's current notices, not a historical list or a pin, to decide where to go: https://dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/hiking/catskill-backcountry-information For untrailed peaks, plan navigation, legal access and a conservative turnaround before departure. Conditions, daylight, water crossings and ice can make a familiar objective unsuitable. Leave no new blazes, cairns or cut paths.
