Overview
A hundred summits across three states: 59 in New Hampshire, 27 in Maine and 14 in Vermont. This AMC collection includes all 67 New England four-thousand-footers and 33 additional summits. Some are reached on established trails; others require experienced off-trail navigation. Choose each outing for your skills, available time and current conditions.
What counts toward the hundred
Visit all 100 distinct summits in any order and keep a dated record. The list follows AMC’s currently linked 2024-series application forms and complete information sheet, checked on 28 October 2026. Names control membership, so a revised survey height does not add or remove a mountain here. Each of the two Mount Abrahams and two Snow Mountains has its own entry. Baxter and Hamlin on Katahdin, A and D on Wildcat, and the individual Bigelow summits also count separately. Official list: https://www.amc4000footer.org/Appz/Peaks%20NE100.pdf Application and award requirements: https://www.amc4000footer.org/how-to-apply.html Wyld Quest records your progress. Apply directly to AMC for its club recognition, following its current rules.
Prepare for trailless summits
AMC created this project in part to develop wilderness navigation skills. Build confidence with a map and compass before choosing trailless objectives, or travel with an experienced leader. Summit pins identify mountains; plan the approach and return separately with appropriate topographic maps. Follow AMC’s request to leave trailless routes unmarked and avoid publishing GPS tracks that concentrate traffic into new paths. Its guidance specifically rejects the illegally constructed Haystack Road herd path to Peak above the Nubble. Read the full guidance before planning that ascent: https://www.amc4000footer.org/Appz/Intro%20NE100.pdf
Check access for each outing
Check current landowner and land-manager information before using private land or private roads. Permission, gates and road access can change. A place in the AMC list does not establish public access. AMC also asks hikers to respect landowners’ wishes about sharing private-road and land information: https://www.amc4000footer.org/ Boundary Peak sits on the Maine–Quebec border; check lawful access and border requirements for your chosen approach. For Katahdin and the other Baxter State Park summits, consult the park’s current planning information: https://baxterstatepark.org/
Choose conditions that fit your experience
Plan each mountain as a separate outing, including its approach, daylight, navigation and return. Snow, ice, strong winds and poor visibility can change the demands of an ascent. The listed seasons are broad planning guidance, and access and conditions still need checking for the date you choose. This collection has no required route order or single end-to-end distance.
