APPALACHIAN TRAIL · VERMONT
Vermont’s Long Trail helped inspire the Appalachian Trail. The Green Mountains connect that earlier idea with a much longer walk south. This is a place to notice how one path can belong to more than one journey.

PLAN A REAL STOP
Start with things that change a walk: where you can access the trail, sleep, camp, or stop for a view. These come from the official NPS / ATC facilities dataset; check current notices before relying on them.

KNOW THE STATE
Green Mountains · Stratton Mountain · Long Trail
When you encounter a junction sign, imagine the different journeys meeting at that point. Which direction belongs to yours?
The Long Trail dates to 1910. ATC connects Benton MacKaye’s A.T. idea with his time on Stratton Mountain and the inspiration of a trail linking Vermont’s peaks.
Check seasonal trail and road access before travel. Mud-season guidance and a town’s road restrictions matter just as much as the line on the map.
