四国中央市, Ehime, Japan
About this hike
Shosanji, on Marozan in Tokushima, is one of the most famous mountain temples of the pilgrimage. Its name means “Burning Mountain Temple” and comes from a legend of Kobo Daishi defeating a fiery demon here. The hike is tough—about 12 km and 5–6 hours. We recommend this hike for its dramatic mountain setting and legendary history.
