Stage 1 of the JMT begins in Yosemite Valley and climbs steadily via the Mist Trail or JMT junction toward the Sierra crest. Highlights include Vernal and Nevada Falls, granite staircases, and sweeping canyon views. The stage ends near Sunrise Camp, nestled in a quiet alpine basin beneath Cathedral Peak.
