About this hike

This stage crosses the Augstbord Pass at 2,894 m (9,495 ft). The climb is steady, with open alpine views. After the pass, the trail descends steeply into the Mattertal Valley, with the scenery shifting from alpine meadows to vineyard-covered slopes. St. Niklaus is a larger town with shops, transport, and connections to nearby Zermatt.
