APPALACHIAN TRAIL · VIRGINIA
Virginia holds more A.T. miles than any other state. The route passes through the Mount Rogers high country, forests and farmland, and the rolling mountains of Shenandoah. It is a large part of the trail, not just the space between two borders.

KNOW THE STATE
Mount Rogers high country · Great Valley of Virginia · Shenandoah
From a safe viewpoint, follow one ridge with your eyes. Where do fields, woodland and settlements interrupt its line?
ATC describes Virginia’s views as a mix of forest and farmland. Looking for those edges makes the valley part of the walk, not simply a backdrop to a summit photograph.
